The questions we are asked the most in a Lead Happy discovery call

Here are the most popular things we get asked when talking to new clients for the first time. In the spirit of everything we do, we practice full transparency at every turn so we’ve chosen to include the popular questions and also the ‘tricky’ ones in the hope it might help. Investing in yourself or your leaders can feel like a big step, and we want to make it feel as clear and therefore, as exciting as possible. If you can’t find what you need, get in touch.

  • We’ve never invested in Leadership Development before, where’s the best place to start?

With just 38% of leaders feeling fully prepared to move to the next level of leadership, any investment in your leaders is a good one, as long as the development you’re getting is what you actually need. The first place to start is a conversation about where you’re at right now. What are the challenges you think you have, where you want to get to, and it’s a good idea to have some idea of what you can invest - but not essential. From our initial conversations, new clients always leave us with a clear idea of how they can make the best investment in the right way. If we don’t think we’re the right fit for you, we will tell you straight and advise you on your onward journey.

  • How much does a Lead Happy experience cost?

It depends on the current reality, what the future goals are and how many people are involved. Our products are designed to help anyone within an organisation, from a single leader, to a board or ExCo, or a specific team - or even the entire organisation. Our experiences can be a half day, right through to twelve months, so you’re looking at a minimum investment of around £1,995.00 for a personal exploration with some coaching for a single leader, with our largest clients investing over six figures across a financial year. If you’re an individual who is going to self fund your development, get in touch for a conversation. Lead Happy lifebelt starts at £495 for privately-funded individuals.

  • If we want to develop the leaders across our organisation (top team, senior, middle leaders) where is the best place to start for the biggest impact?

This is a question that we get asked a lot. The answer is different for different types of organisation and the nature of the challenges and opportunities that are present. We would always start with a discovery call and exploration of the organisational culture, structure and ambitions, and from that, we would look to identify priority areas from there. We would say though, that in any organisation, big or small, what is role-modelled at the top sets the tone for what happens elsewhere, so it’s essential this community are getting things right. Your middle managers are also fundamental as they have the most contact with the widest population of people which is where the anecdote about people leaving managers - not organisations - comes from.

  • Can Lead Happy experiences be beneficial for remote & hybrid teams?

Absolutely. Coaching can help those leading remote or hybrid teams to improve communication, build trust, and stay connected despite physical distances. We delivered a huge amount of coaching and development around this during the COVID-19 pandemic where this mode of leadership was thrust upon so many - and it is a very different art to leading in person or in a hybrid context. Virtual coaching sessions, online resources, and digital tools also facilitate this process.

  • We’re specifically looking for leadership mentoring for our people, is that something you offer?

Yes, we offer coaching, facilitation and mentoring alongside or in place of all of our products, at any level of an organisation. Because specialism and relevant experience can be really important in leadership mentoring, we also have an extensive network of leaders who we can approach regarding mentor pairing if we feel that’s the best route.

  • How do you measure the success of Lead Happy experiences?

How will we measure the success of this is a conversation that always comes up with clients - and we get it! ROI is an important thing - especially when you’re having to justify investments to your Board. We work with clients to identify the levers that will make the biggest difference to their organisations and those are the things we work to track in partnership with our clients. We do find that ROI in leadership development is traditionally sought through logical, financial metrics. But in reality, it’s found in greater employee retention, the dismantling of siloes and the creation of happy, connected teams who are unafraid to bring themselves to work, in all their wonderful variety. Can you put a value on this? To support all of this our feedback process is robust and we collect insight at every stage of the experiences so that you are always fully aware of the live impact it is having on your leaders.

  • Where do Lead Happy sessions take place?

This varies. The ideal scenario when working with tribes and teams face-to-face is that we get your people offsite, out of the day to day and into a temporary world that we create. If changing the way people think is the goal, by far the best way to do this, is to take them off-site and create an environment which is actually, physically different. It feels different from the moment they arrive and this creates a very real cognitive effect. We offer a full location service to help you with this, if that is possible. Of course we understand that it isn’t always possible. If you have suitable spaces available or venue partnership arrangements that work with your budgets, then we can explore using those to suit the experiences we are delivering. For coaching, and tribes, where we are delivering a series of shorter sessions, we will always use a blend of in-person, online, on and offsite, providing clear guidance on virtual participation for our leaders and what does and doesn’t work.

  • How is Lead Happy different from other leadership development ‘programmes’?

Lead Happy focuses on personalised, experiential learning rather than traditional ‘training’ methods. Our approach is based on the belief that true leadership and team performance stems from from self-awareness, authenticity and connection and focusing on our shared human condition. Every one of our experiences is tailored for the individual, group and organisation so it feels like it’s been made especially for you. Full of music, colour, props, multimedia and an array of sensory delights, Lead Happy experiences create unforgettable memories and learning for a lifetime.

  • What results can I expect from a Lead Happy experience?

This depends on what you set out to achieve - which will be carefully co-created with you regardless of the experience you are investing in. Common results our clients report are significant improvements in self-awareness, emotional intelligence, communication behaviours, collaboration and co-creation, and overall leadership effectiveness across their leaders. From a teams point of view we hear a lot about improved trust, connection and communication and the breakdown of siloes, blame cultures and action or decision paralysis. Many of our clients also experience positive changes in their personal lives too. According to feedback, 91% of our clients rate their experience as excellent or outstanding and 100% would recommend it to a colleague or loved one.

  • What types of services does Lead Happy offer?

We offer a variety of services including 1-2-1 leadership coaching, group leadership development, team development, facilitation, masterclasses (workshops with way more magic!), and live events.

  • Who can benefit from Lead Happy?

We also work with teams of any kind at any level who are looking for change and to go on a transformational journey.

  • How do you ensure that the experiences are tailored to individual needs?

We encourage everyone that begins coaching with us to complete a Personal Exploration. This helps us understand the individual’s unique story, profile, strengths and challenges, allowing us to design a coaching experience that is truly tailored to their needs. For Teams and Tribes we personalise every session through the collection of group insights before each experience. Conversation and understanding difference, diversity and individuality is the foundation of all Lead Happy experiences because it’s the foundation of most personal, leadership and organisational challenges.

  • What is the Lead Happy formula?

The Lead Happy formula is a six-part series of modules that cover the fundamentals of brilliant leadership. Developed over 20 years, it’s our own recipe for leadership in today’s world, is a key element within our Tribes Experiences and helps leaders understand the fundamentals of leading effectively in today’s complex world.

  • Can Lead Happy experiences be integrated into our existing leadership development programmes?

Yes, we often work with HR and People leads to design collaborative leadership development experiences or to support existing in-house programmes. Examples of how Lead Happy experiences can be integrated include running a customised Masters Series to fit within your existing programmes and tackling key leadership challenges, Lead Happy coaching for leaders to provide one to one support alongside an internal leadership programme or a Team Experience for a group of leaders to build cohesion and connection whilst they’re undertaking individual on-demand learning through a company’s LMS platform. A Lead Happy Live experience can also be used to bring some colour and carnival to certain aspects of an internal programme.

  • What can I expect from a Lead Happy experience?

Lead Happy experiences are unique and personalised. You can expect a full, sensory journey that begins before you arrive and continues long after you leave. Our approach includes personal explorations, coaching, enabling profound conversations, trust-building activities, and a range of engaging and fun interventions. Our clients frequently tell us it’s the most memorable piece of development they’ve done (and they’ve still got the takeaway props on their desks!).

  • How can I get started with Lead Happy?

You can start by booking a discovery call with us on the contact page. During this call, we'll discuss your specific needs and how Lead Happy can support yours or your organisation’s leadership journey. You can also subscribe to our news, advice, and recommendations for ongoing insights at the bottom of this list.

  • What ongoing ongoing support does Lead Happy offer?

We offer ongoing support through our online Lead Happy community, dynamic transformation trackers, and soon, a personalised Lead Happy AI coaching platform (arriving late 2024). This ensures that the benefits of your experience continue throughout and long after the initial engagement. Once part of our Lead Happy community, we never want you to leave so you can become a part of our closed Lead Happy Mighty Networks and Linkedin communities.

  • What is the difference between coaching and mentoring?

Coaching is a professional relationship where a coach helps individuals achieve their personal and professional goals through guided conversations and structured exercises. Mentoring, on the other hand, involves an individual providing advice, guidance, and support based on their own experiences. Our approach when working 1-2-1 with leaders is a blend of coaching, mentoring and therapeutic approaches.

  • How can leadership coaching benefit an organisation?

Leadership coaching can enhance an organisation's performance by developing leaders who are more self-aware, effective communicators, and capable of driving positive change. It can improve team dynamics, boost employee engagement, and foster a culture of continuous learning and development. Behind so many great leaders is a great coach because brilliant leaders place a value on continuous learning, exploration and carving out the space to stay close to their own thoughts, ideas and opportunities.

  • How often should coaching sessions be held?

The frequency of coaching sessions can vary depending on individual needs and goals. Typically, sessions are held monthly, but fortnightly and even weekly can be discussed if the short term context demands it. We will work with you to establish a schedule that best supports your development.

  • How do I measure the success of a coaching engagement?

The success of a coaching partnership can only be measured by you and your coach and depends on your goals at the outset of the relationship. Of course, those around you (your team and/ or your leaders) will be sure to notice some changes in your mindset, behaviours and impact if you are making progress and we often work closely with C-suites and business leaders to discuss in an open and transparent way, with the coachee involved, the progress they'd like to see in their team members who are engaging in a coaching experience with us. We are sticklers for meaningful goals and work hard to support our clients to articulate them really clearly with truly transformational goals (not tactical ones), specific behaviours that will feed into them and really importantly, how that progress is going to feel. We use the Lead Happy Transformation Tracker to aid this and ensure that you are on track at every step of the journey. Things can change and new goals can come up once we get deep into your journey - and that’s great. We work in a dynamic way and ensure the progress you’re making is transformation for you.

  • What happens if we start working with Lead Happy and it doesn’t work out?

It’s simple. If you are not entirely happy and loving your Lead Happy experience, let’s talk. We are a values-driven business. We will never work with an organisation that we don’t believe we can help. Our ethos is one of complete transparency and we talk a lot about how to have the right conversations, at the right time, in the right way - and that starts with us. All of our client agreements allow for break clauses that protect both us and you and we can discuss these in detail to ensure you’re comfortable. We’re also gathering insight from our client community all of the time - live in session, during experiences and immediately after they finish so we're constantly learning how to make what we do even better. Every day is a school day at Lead Happy HQ!
